With the M4 MacBook Air announcement being imminent, I know many of you may be considering this laptop for video editing and creative work. I’ve done my share of reviews and answering your questions about whether this device has enough under the hood to be able to get that creative work done.
Even though the previous base models that started at 8GBs of memory were still quite capable, the extra bump in memory to 16GBs of memory did provide some benefit for those that were managing multiple applications and tasks while still trying to edit video even though the swap memory is very efficient, it still provided a small advantage. Not to mention that adding in an extra $200 USD to order a 16GB model started teasing the price of the base model MacBook Pro.
Now that Apple is offering 16GBs in all base models this does provide that slight edge with no additional investment up front. It’s really the lack of a fan that can push the machine to thermal throttle, but it typically only happens in short bursts.
So with the soon to be announcement of the M4 MacBook Air does it make sense to save a little money and look to the M2 or M3 MacBook Air for video editing and creative work?
